Caribbean Vacations on the Cayman Islands

The beautiful Cayman Islands are a popular Caribbean vacation destination, situated approximately 90 miles south of Cuba and west of Jamaica. They are well-known for their offshore banking and insurance industries which attract many wealthy residents. With their tropical Caribbean sunshine and outstanding coral reefs, the Cayman Islands are a popular vacation destination all year round, particularly with those who enjoy vacationing in Caribbean luxury villas.

These charming islands are a British Overseas territory and have retained the official English language and drive on the left, although their currency is the Cayman Islands dollar.

Once the home of pirates, shipwrecked sailors, deserters and refugees from the Spanish Inquisition, the Cayman Islands are now a luxury Caribbean vacation destination. Although they are known for their tax-exempt status, dining out and provisions are a little more expensive than in the US. The Cayman Islands residents have the 12th largest GDP in the world and enjoy some of the highest standards of living in the Caribbean.

The three main islands of Grand Cayman, Little Cayman and Cayman Brac are the highest peaks of the Cayman Trench, a coral ridge which stands 8000 feet (2400m) above the floor of the Caribbean Sea. These deep waters provide excellent scuba diving and sports fishing to enhance your Caribbean vacation. The Cayman Islands have two indigenous species of parrot, along with the threatened Blue Iguana which can only be found here.

Many of the hotels, resorts and luxury villas on Grand Cayman are located on Seven Mile Beach. There are two shipwrecks just offshore which are popular with divers. Stingray City is where snorkelers can hand-feed the friendly stingrays in the warm, shallow waters. Other things to do on the Cayman Islands include hiking up the forested Mastic Trail, visiting the turtle farm, or spending the day at Boatswain’s beach, a popular marine theme park.

With daily flights into Owen Roberts Internationa Airport in George Town and occasional cruise ships visiting, the Cayman Islands are one of the most popular choices for Caribbean vacations.
