Caribbean Luxury Villas on the Bahamas

The beautiful islands of the Bahamas lie just off the southeastern coast of Florida. Known for their warm sunshine and beautiful sandy beaches, the Bahamas are a popular place to own or rent Caribbean luxury villas. The 29 main islands are surrounded by clear turquoise waters scattered with hundreds of smaller islets and cays. All the Bahamas are flat and low with high points just 15-20m (49-66 feet) above sea level.

The islands of the Bahamas were largely uninhabited until 1718 when they became a British colony. Plantations were established and slaves worked on them until 1807 when slavery was abolished throughout the British Empire. Since then the Bahamas has prospered and become one of the most wealthy countries in the Caribbean. There are now many luxury hotels and vacation villas in the Bahamas providing idyllic Caribbean vacations throughout the year. One of the best-known is the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, New Providence, which is a huge casino and waterpark with excellent international restaurants and waterfront shopping.

Caribbean cruises to the Bahamas are popular, especially with the duty-free shopping in ports such as Nassau and Freeport. The Bahamas economy is based on banking and tourism. The official language is English and the US dollar is widely accepted, making Caribbean vacations very easy.

The national dish in the Bahamas is conch but fish and seafood is served everywhere. The cost of living and dining out is a little higher than in the US but standards are high and the designer shops are well frequented by wealthy international visitors.

With a sunny climate and waters warmed by the Gulf Stream, the Bahamas are the perfect setting for a dream Caribbean vacation. Caribbean honeymoons and weddings are increasingly popular and the Bahamas has the perfect climate and beach locations to suit every requirement absolutely perfectly. Caribbean luxury villas are popular for family vacations or as a private hideaway for romantic beach vacations. With wonderful beaches, excellent snorkeling and diving, beach activities, great restaurants and year-round tropical sunshine, a Caribbean vacation in the Bahamas is hard to beat!
